A water-saving garden habit does not have to start with new equipment. A short morning check can help you water where it matters and skip the places that are already fine.

Begin with shade. Plants that stay shaded longer may not need the same attention as exposed pots or raised beds. Touch the soil before deciding.

Look for dry pockets next. Corners near walls, pots under eaves, and narrow beds can dry out while the rest of the garden still looks settled.

Check mulch and runoff. If water runs away quickly, slow the pour and give it time to soak. If the surface is bare, make a note for a future mulch top-up rather than over-watering today.
